Space Academy - Learn 2nds/steps

As we already know, notes travel up and down the music stave on lines and spaces.

As notes progress one by one up the keyboard, notes also progress one by one up the staff. We say a note is sitting on a line if the line goes straight through the middle of the note. We say the notes sits in a space if it sits snuggly inside the space between the lines. This pattern of lines and spaces creates a musical scale across the piano.

We call the distance between each note a step or 2nd interval.

Intervals count from the note we start on to the note we finish on: one, two.

During Mission 1 we learnt basic rhythmic elements (moving through time), as well as locating notes (moving through space). In Mission 2, you will continue to play all the rhythmic elements as well as adding extra locating notes, intervals up to a 5th, chords, broken chords and inversions.

Too many thought processes running through your brain at once can be overwhelming. To simplify the whole process, we've separated the rhythm from the notes. For each session you'll play a rhythmic score that's been extracted straight out of the full music score.

Don't skip this step: it's the rocket fuel you'll need to play the full score in the Flight Simulator coming up next.

Play with the movie rhythm score

Here's your 'rhythmic' preflight training:

1. Tap

  • Hand separately (treble = right, bass = left).
  • Hands together.

2. Improvise

  • Play full rhythm score on any C notes.

Play with the click versions first and then progress to the no click versions.
